Welcome to my personal webpage. I am excited that you stopped by to learn more. My page is just getting started but will continue to be developed over time. In the meantime, you are welcome to follow me on Twitter at @scibri or LinkedIn.
I have been working public education for over 20 years. I grew up in Western North Carolina where I learned the value of education, hard work, and perseverance. As a native Appalachian, I was able to witness the value of education first hand in transforming the lives of others. My twin sister and I were first generation college students. Our parents instilled a love of learning in each of us while they reminded us of the importance serving others and always being humble and kind. It is these lessons that have served me well in public education.
I started off as a high school chemistry and science teacher at Salisbury High School (an extraordinary high school with awesome students). During that time, I launched the school's first ever AP Chemistry program and the NC Teacher Cadet program. I also created two STEM electives called Virtual Reality I and II where students learned how to problem solve, thinking critically, collaborate, communication, and think creatively. It was my love of technology integration and helping others that led me to be become an Instructional Technology Facilitator at China Grove Middle School for three years (a phenomenal middle school with some amazing students). During the 2018-19 school year, I served as a Design Thinking / Challenge Based Learning Instructor at North Rowan High School where I helped students develop skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity (the 4Cs) in addition to problem solving and student agency.
For the 2019-2020 school year, I have returned back to China Grove Middle School to serve as an instructional coach for innovative learning where I will assist teachers with implementing design and challenge based learning into their curriculums. Challenge based and problem based learning opportunities will be a fixture of the student experience to learn these skills. I am excited about helping to #ChangetheEquation for my students and teachers.
